Actress Carole Lombard in Chicago, September 15, 1934. The most successful actress of the 1930s, Lombard was also famous for her marriage to actor Clark Gable in 1939. Lombard died tragically in 1942 in a plane crash. She was returning home from a war bond rally in her home state of Indiana with her mother, and Gable's agent (and close friend) Otto Winkler. She is interred in California under the name Carole Lombard Gable, and Clark Gable is beside her.
