Thirteen students on their way to a volleyball tournament were injured when a pick-up truck collided with a school bus this morning in north suburban Grayslake, officials said.
The accident occurred about 7:45 a.m. at Route 83 and Washington Street, according to spokesmen for the Grayslake Police and Fire departments.
The injured were all members of the Libertyville High School girls' volleyball team, on their way to a tournament in Woodstock, said Grayslake Police Sgt. Scott Heimos.
Two were treated and released at the scene. Nine students were taken in good-to-fair condition to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville and two were taken to Grayslake Emergency Center, he said. Of those two, one was in fair-to-serious condition with a possible
The other students suffered minor cuts and bruises. None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, officials said.
The students were traveling to Woodstock for a volleyball tournament. According to the high school website, the school's freshman A girls volleyball team was scheduled to play in a tournament in Woodstock today.
The bus was headed north on Route 83 and the truck was headed south when one of them tried to turn left on Washington, said Heimos. Police were still interviewing witnesses to determine whether the bus or the truck was turning, he said.
