Joseph Potempa kisses his wife, Rose, at his campaign headquarters at 5444 S. Archer Ave. after winning the election for 23rd Ward alderman on April 6, 1971. Potempa, a Republican, pleaded guilty in 1973 to accepting a $3,000 bribe for a zoning change and failing to report $9,000 in bribes on two rezoning cases on income tax returns. He was sentenced to serve a year and a day in prison.
