DuPage County Judge Kathryn Creswell ordered Alexander R. Georg, 28, remanded to the custody of the Illinois Department of Human Services, which will attempt to return him to mental fitness so he can be tried.
Georg attacked his mother about 2:15 p.m. on Aug. 11 after she brought him home from a hospital and offered to make him lunch, according to authorities.
"It was 45 minutes from discharge to his mother asking him if he wanted a sandwich," Georg's attorney, Jack Donahue, said Monday.

The mother received four stabs wounds in the chest and neck during the attack but has recovered. Georg was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery and aggravated domestic battery and has been held in the county jail in lieu of $1.5 million bail.
