Kerry Wood returned to the Cubs’ clubhouse Sunday, two months after he suddenly retired.
Does he miss the entire baseball scene yet?
“I miss the guys,” he said. “But I don’t miss what it takes to get ready every day and what it feels like when the day is over. I’m enjoying family life.”
Then he made the right decision?
“Absolutely. I tried to play catch today so I know I made the right decision,” he laughed.
Asked if he was bored yet, Wood replied:
“No, I waited a long time for this. I’ve been pretty busy, especially right after (retirement). I had the book come out, I had an event for the (Kerry Wood) Foundaton. I haven’t really slowed down until the last 10 or 12 days. It’s been great. I’ve got plenty of things to keep me busy.”
And the commercial where he pulls Andre Dawson out of the vines?
“We got good feedback,” he said. “It took nine hours for that 30-second spot but it was fun doing it. It was fun to hang out with Hawk.”Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
