Maintenance man gunned down near Arlington Heights

Authorities are working on “good leads’’ following the slaying of a maintenance worker who was gunned down this morning while on the job near

Arlington Heights

, authorities said.

The victim, identified as 34-year-old Abel Oliva of the 4000 block of Bonhill Drive in

Cook County

's Palatine Township, suffered multiple gunshot wounds near his home and was pronounced dead at 10:46 a.m. at Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

The victim was gunned down outside, while possibly at work about 9:45 a.m. at the complex where he also lived, said Frank Bilecki, a spokesman for Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart.

No one else was injured.

A motive for the attack was not clear, and Bilecki said while there were no witnesses, investigators continue to canvass the area this afternoon and are working on some “pretty good leads.’’

Bilecki said he did not know whether anyone was being questioned.

An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.
