A 25-year-old man died Sunday evening after being shot in the head Saturday in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side when he went to answer the door at a family member's home, authorities said.

Billie R. Daniels, of the 4200 block of West Division Street, was pronounced dead at 8:07 p.m. Sunday at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The victim was shot about 6:50 p.m. Saturday in the 5500 block of South Emerald Avenue, police said Saturday.

He was at a family member's home when the doorbell rang, and he went downstairs to answer the door of the frame two-flat, said Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak. Family members heard gunshots and found the victim with a gunshot wound to the head.

Daniels is not believed to have had any gang affiliation, police said.

Area South detectives were investigating.
