A 20-year-old man has been charged in connection with a gang-involved car chase that ended when a car hit three pedestrians and crashed into a building in the Cragin neighborhood Friday night.
A 52-year-old man died and two other men, 38 and 52, were injured, police said.
Anthony Segura, of the 2200 block of N. Lawndale Avenue, was charged with one count of reckless homicide with a motor vehicle and two counts of reckless driving causing bodily harm, according to the Chicago Police Department.
Police said Segura was driving the vehicle that killed Fernando Lagos-Balsco, of the 1200 block of West Leland Avenue.
Four others were arrested Friday night but Segura is the only one facing charges, police said.
Segura was driving a Nissan Altima west on Armitage Avenue that was involved in a chase with a Mitsubishi and people in each car were throwing bottles at each other, police said. The dispute was gang related, police said.
The Altima jumped a curb at the corner of Lawler Avenue and hit the three men before hitting the corner building, which houses a church and an outreach center that caters to people with disabilities and HIV / AIDS in the Latino community.
Lagos-Balsco was pronounced dead at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and the two surviving victims were both taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.
Segura is scheduled to appear in bond court Sunday morning, police said.Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
