The fatal shooting took place at 8:35 p.m. on the 600 block of East 45th Street, said
Killed was Samuel Clay, of an unknown home address, according to the
Clay was found lying face up on a cement slab at the rear of a residence with a gunshot wound to the head, police said.
Police, citing early reports, said the victim was standing in the area when shots rang out and he was struck, police said.
Clay was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
Police said no one was in custody, but released no other details.
Meanwhile a few hours later about 11:55 p.m., a 34-year-old was shot during a robbery in the 4800 block of South King Drive, about five blocks away from Clay's murder, police said.
Police said in a community alert that the robber got out of a black Pontiac Grand
Prix, with a loud muffler while the driver and a passenger in the back seat stayed inside. The victim was walking on the sideway when the gunman approached on foot, police said.
The robber went up to the victim, showed a blue steel, semi-automatic handgun and fired at the other man while announcing a robbery. The car fled south after the attack. The robber is described as a black man with medium complexion and neck-length dreadlocks, 25 to 29 years old, standing about 6-foot-1, with a slim build.
