A 49-year-old man was shot dead and another man was critically wounded today in separate shootings on the West Side.
The 49-year-old was pronounced dead after being shot this afternoon in the Lawndale neighborhood, officials said.
Bruce Bennett, of the 3800 block of West Van Buren St., was pronounced dead at 1:11 p.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Police responded to the 1200 block of South Kolin Avenue at about 12:28 p.m. after the man was shot, said Chicago Police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti.
When police arrived they discovered the man had been shot in the head and shoulder, and he was taken to Mount Sinai where he was later pronounced dead, Ursitti said.
No one was in custody as of this evening as police investigate.
At about 6:45 p.m. Chicago police were notified that a man had sustained a gunshot wound to his neck, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.
The man told investigators that he was shot on the 200 block of North LaPorte Avenue and was taken by someone to West Suburban Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, Greer said.
The man was expected to be transferred to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Greer said.
Also Friday evening, a male was stabbed in the arm at about 7:30 p.m. on the 1200 block of West Pratt Boulevard, Greer said.
The male, whose age was not immediately released, was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston in good condition, Greer said.
