A Caledonia man died early this morning after the vehicle he was driving struck a tree in McHenry County, officials said.
The accident happened at about 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of O'Brien Road and Nolan Street in unincorporated Alden Township, just northeast of Harvard, according to a press release issued by McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren.
Michael G. Doersam, 30, of Caledonia was pronounced dead at the scene by the McHenry County Coroner's office.
According to preliminary information, Doersam was driving a 1997 Buick LeSabre westbound in the 17100 block of O'Brien Road when the car veered left off the road and struck a tree on the south side of the intersection, Nygren said.
Police said the car's airbags deployed but the man was not wearing a seatbelt, Nygren said. Toxicology results are pending, Nygren said.
The accident is being investigated by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Accident Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner's Office.
