A West Chicago man was sentenced to 45 years in prison today for beating his son to death when the infant cried and refused to drink his bottle, officials said.
On June 10, Judge Kathryn Creswell found Gustavo Torres-Medel, 27, guilty of first-degree murder after a bench trial, according to a DuPage County State's Attorney's news release.
Torres-Medel was accused of beating his 3 1/2 month-old son to death in April of 2009. Officials alleged the infant was struck on his head and body when he would not stop crying and refused to drink his bottle.

In addition to the beating, Torres-Medel grabbed the infant under his arms, squeezed and shook him before throwing him into a child carrier, officials said.
Torres-Medel was arrested and charged the next day, according to the release.
As part of the sentence, Torres-Medel must serve all 45 years in an Illinois state prison before being eligible for parole.
