On Sept. 11, 2009 Corey Harris of Dyett High School was shot and killed by an off-duty Chicago police officer. According to law enforcement sources, the officer was in his vehicle at a stoplight at 69th Street and King Drive at 3:30 p.m. when he saw Harris shoot someone. The officer chased Harris in his vehicle, eventually catching up with him. During that confrontation, Harris allegedly pointed a gun at the officer, prompting the officer to open fire, sources said. An autopsy performed on Corey Harris Saturday revealed the 17-year-old died of a gunshot wound to the back, the Cook County medical examiner's office said.
