The $45 million Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center at 9603 Woods Drive in Skokie officially opens April 19, 2009, with former President Bill Clinton and Nobel Peace Prize winner and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel as the featured speakers. The opening event is sold out. The 65,000-square-foot museum includes permanent exhibits with hundreds of artifacts, most collected during the last decade from local residents.
