Bud Freeman grew up in Chicago during the city's golden age of jazz and as part of the " Austin High School Gang", snuck into clubs to soak up the music. The saxophonist played with Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey but also led his own band. He traveled and recorded around the world but returned to Chicago late in life and played into his 80s. He died in 1991.
