Tribeca Film announced Thursday that it has picked up the Steppenwolf Films production “The Last Rites of Joe May” and plans to distribute it on video-on-demand and in theaters in October.
Filmed in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood in late 2009, the drama stars Dennis Farina as an aging hustler trying to reverse his fortunes, and it also features such familiar Steppenwolf faces as Gary Cole, Ian Barford, Chelcie Ross and Matt DeCaro, with Tim Evans and Terry Kinney in producer roles. "I’d always fantasized about doing something with the Steppenwolf Theatre company," said director Joe Maggio, who lives in New York. “I love what they do. I love what they stand for."
"The Last Rites of Joe May" had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in May.
