A 73-year-old Dixmoor woman who died Sunday is the 12th death in Cook County to be attributed to the recent heat wave, officials said today.

Helene V. Sanborn, of the 14000 block of South Western Avenue, died of heart disease. But the Cook County medical examiner's office determined heat stress was a secondary cause of death.

Sanborn was pronounced dead at 1 p.m. Sunday at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, according to the office. She had been found in a back room of her home.

Sanborn's death brings the total number of heat-related deaths in the last week to at least 12 in Cook County.
