Oscar Avila is the Tribune's correspondent in Mexico City, covering Mexico and Central America. He was previously a Metro reporter writing about immigration and Chicago's ethnic communities with a focus on the recent wave of Mexican immigration to Chicago. In 2004, Avila researched indigenous politics in Bolivia as part of an International Reporting Project fellowship. Before arriving at the Tribune, Avila was roving Missouri correspondent and Metro reporter for The Kansas City Star. He is a native of Kansas and graduated from George Washington University with a degree in international relations.
