Patrice Jones is the Tribune's South America correspondent, based in Rio de Janeiro. She joined the Tribune in August 1997 and worked as a metro reporter, covering higher education, the courts, the police beat and secondary schools, before becoming a member of the foreign staff. Prior to joining the Tribune, she worked at the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the St. Petersburg Times and the Miami Herald. In 1998, Jones was awarded a Chicago Tribune Outstanding Professional Performance award. Jones, a native of Richmond, Va., has a Master's degree in international relations from the University of Sussex in England and a Bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
