Algonquin man killed in hit-and-run accident in McHenry County

A 22-year-old Algonquin man was struck and killed early this morning in a hit-and-run crash in unincorporated McHenry County. 

Shortly before 3:30 a.m., McHenry County sheriffs officials responded to a call of a person injured on East Main Street west of Newbold Road in unincorporated Algonquin Township, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

When paramedics and police arrived, they found the man, John D. Fennesy of the 600 block of South Hubbard Street in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that an eastbound vehicle on the 600 block of East Main Street struck the pedestrian and then fled the scene, the release said.

The McHenry County sheriff's office is seeking help locating the hit-and-run vehicle or anyone who may have witnessed the crash. Pieces from the vehicle's headlight area were left behind at the scene.
