All trains were stopped on the Union Pacific Northwest Line this morning after a train bound for Chicago struck and killed a 54-year-old man near the Des Plaines station at about 7:30 a.m., officials said.
The man, who was from Des Plaines, was struck by Train 618, which was due in Chicago at 7:56 a.m., according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller. The train was an express not scheduled to stop at the Des Plaines station.
The man was struck near the area of Pearson Street and the railroad tracks, a short distrance from the Des Plaines metra station at 1501 Miner Street, according to police.
