Jamari was with a youth group from All Nations Church at Promised Land Paintball Park in Trevor, Wis., on Saturday.
A lifeguard was on duty and in performing a head count came up one person short, officials said. As the lifeguard began to search, one of the members of the church group reported they had stepped on someone who was under the water.
The boy was located under 6 to 7 feet of water and was immediately dragged from the pond. The lifeguard and the owner performed CPR, officials said. Jamari was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and died there Sunday afternoon.
Officials today said the boy's father described him as "a decent swimmer." They said one witness reported Jamari had been seen heading for the deeper end of the swimming area about 15 to 20 minutes before he was located underwater.
There were no signs of trauma on his body, but autopsy results are not yet available, officials said.
