We've recently caught some tasty news from the Chicago fish world.
First, the Fish Guy ( 4423 N. Elston Ave.) is back open after the market's renovation to accommodate more dining. It is now serving a full lunch menu that includes a yummy clamwich, lobster roll, fish tacos and kobe burger. Dinner menus to come soon.
And Fish Bar (2956 N Sheffield Ave.) today announced that will help combat what's predicted to be a beastly winter with hot cups of soup sold from its patio every Wednesday for $5 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The soup are expected to include potato leek, mushroom and butternut squash. And they'll do more than just offer commuters an easy dinner and something to keep their hands warm on the trip home. Profits from the soup sales are supposed to benefit Inspiration Cafe in Uptown , which provides services to Chicago's homeless.
In less happy seafood news, FoodNavigatorUSA is reporting that a group of senators from the Gulf region are urging the Food and Drug Administration to do more to assure Americans of the safety of seafood from the region.
They noted that recent reports have cast some doubt on the Gulf seafood safety after the BP oil spill, and they want the agency to address them. The most notable of these reports came from the National Resources Defense Council study that suggested the FDA had underestimated safe levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) for vulnerable populations that include pregnant women and children.Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
