Sheila Brillson has been named to lead the Chicago region of Summer Advantage USA. Summer Advantage USA is a research-based summer learning program that works with school districts to improve student achievement. Brillson said her goals for the Chicago area include "increasing all children's access to quality summer learning opportunities ... and partnering with Chicago leaders to be part of the national movement to help reverse summer learning loss." Brillson, a former teacher, has served in various educational and state government capacities in Indiana and Washington. She also was mayor of Michigan City, Ind. She currently heads Brillson Associates, which specializes in organizational development and quality improvement. Brillson has an M.A. in English from Valparaiso University and a B.A. in English Education from John Carroll University.
