Four people were shot, one fatally, in two separate incidents overnight in Maywood.
Just before midnight Sunday, a man was killed in the 800 block of South 19th Avenue across the street from where another man was killed early Saturday morning, said Maywood Police Chief Tim Curry.
“We don’t know if it’s related yet,” he said. "We've got a couple of leads that we're following up."
Johntue Tate, 27, of the same block where he was shot, was pronounced dead at Loyola University Medical Center at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, the Cook County medical examiner's office said.
A 20-year-old man was shot in both legs in the same incident, he said. He was transported to Loyola but his condition wasn’t known, Curry said.
Six blocks away, in the 200 block of South 19th Avenue at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday, a 22-year-old man was parking a car when at least one gunman approached and opened fire.
The man leaned over to shield his passenger, a 21-year-old woman, and both sustained multiple gunshot wounds. They were both transported to Loyola, and their conditions weren’t known.
Early Saturday, 25-year-old Vincent M. Frazier of Chicago's Austin Neighborhood was shot and killed at about 3:45 a.m. in a basement hallway of an apartment building in the 800 block of South 19th Avenue, across the street from where Tate was shot less than 24 hours later.Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
