CTA contractor suffers minor injuries after touching 3rd rail

Tribune reporter

An employee for a CTA contractor came into contact with the third rail in the State Street subway on the Near North Side Thursday evening, a CTA spokesman said.

The worker was taken to a hospital following the incident about 9:15 p.m. near the Clark/Division station on the Red Line, said Steve Mayberry, a CTA spokesman.

A Fire Department spokesman said the worker suffered "superficial facial burns" and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Power was shut off for 8 minutes in both directions, causing minor delays, Mayberry said.
