frontman Billy Corgan can keep the large sign adorning his Highland Park tea shop, the northern suburb's City Council decided Monday night.
The neon sign in the window of Madame Zuzu's Tea Shop, which Corgan opened in September, is about five times the size allowed by a local zoning ordinance. But in a letter to city officials, Corgan said the sign is vital for attracting customers and doesn't affect the vision of drivers passing by.
Meeting Monday night, the council voted unanimously and without discussion for an after-the-fact code variance permitting the sign.
Following the meeting, Mayor Nancy R. Rotering thanked Corgan, and the two hugged.
