Tim Fenton has been promoted to chief operating officer at McDonald's Corp., effective July 1. He is taking over for Don Thompson, who will become CEO, and will have responsibility for the company's nearly 34,000 restaurants. Fenton, 54, previously was president of the company's Asia, Pacific, Middle East and Africa region, which has been identified as its biggest growth opportunity. Fenton joined McDonald's in 1973 as a restaurant-level employee in Utica, N.Y. In 1979, he was awarded the company's Manager of the Year Award. He has since served in a variety of management positions in Asia, Poland, Central Europe.
