Weekend's top shows: Neil Diamond, El-P and Killer Mike, Wilco
Neil Diamond: His set list is full of instant sing-alongs. Some are “so good, so good” (“Sweet Caroline”) they’re sometimes performed twice. Diamond is 71, yet he still puts on an energetic, hit-packed show, 8 p.m. Friday at the United Center, 1901 W. Madison, $55, $85, $120; ticketmaster.com
El-P and Killer Mike: The New York MC/producer El-P is out with the hard-hitting “Cancer 4 Cure.” OutKast protégé Killer Mike counters with the El-P-produced “R.A.P. Music.” You won’t see a better hip-hop double bill this year, 8 p.m. Friday at the Bottom Lounge, 1375 W. Lake St., $21; ticketweb.com.
Wilco: Baseball, fireworks and a revered rock band – a quintessential summer package. The Chicago sextet plays a triple-header at the home of the Kane County Cougars, with warm-up sets from Andrew Bird and the soul-music octet the Congregation, 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva, Ill., $50; etix.com.
