March is here. That time of year when we all become, if only for a couple of weeks, college basketball fanatics. We’re a little bit sentimental, a little bit bracket-pool-obsessed. And Trib Nation has just the events for all of us.
For the sentimental:
Monday, March 18
Press Pass: “HOOSIERS”
Watch the 1986 classic starring Gene Hackman on the big screen at Chicago’s historic Music Box Theatre. Afterward, Tribune sports columnist David Haugh and film critic Michael Phillips lead a discussion of the film with special guest, actor Chelcie Ross (George in “Hoosiers,” also appears in “Rudy,” “Major League,” “Trouble with the Curve” and numerous other, non-sports-related films). They’ll also be joined by Bobby Plump, a member of the 1954 Indiana high school basketball championship team on which “Hoosiers” is based, for a Skype Q&A. (SPOILER ALERT: Plump hit the real-life game-winning shot, reenacted by Jimmy Chitwood in the movie.) $15. 7 p.m. Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Ave., Chicago. You can find tickets here.
And for the bracket-pool-obsessed (or those new to the game):
Tuesday, March 19
TribU: Bracket Building
Looking for a leg up on your tournament bracket this year? Come grab a drink and find out what it takes to achieve Duke-like dominance in your office pool with Tribune bracket expert Matt Wood. Learn all the tips of the trade: top seeds and Cinderella stories, underdogs and upsets, when to abandon your alma mater (sorry, Northwestern fans) and much, much more. Food and drink specials available. $5. 7 p.m. The SCOUT Waterhouse + Kitchen, 1301 S. Wabash Ave., Chicago. You’ll find tickets here.
Join us for one evening, join us for both – either way, let’s weather this madness together. We’d love to see you next week!
