An extra-alarm fire gutted most of a six-flat apartment building in the West
The fire, in the 4000 block of West Wilcox Street, broke out before 11 p.m. Responders upgraded the alarm to bring more equipment and ambulances to the scene.
Trucks and engines drew water from hydrants all over the neighborhood and fed them to a squad truck and a tower ladder truck, both of which poured water from above the three-story brick building.
Nobody was injured, according to the
Crews remained at the scene past midnight.
Police said the building had been "problematic" and that it would likely be knocked down sometime in the near future.
