1050 N. Hermitage Ave., green, single-family home: This was a remarkably intact example of a brick workman’s cottage, built after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Among its distinctive features: Incised stone window hoods with floral motifs and zigzag details, plus a cornice supported by paired brackets. Demolition date unrecorded.Tribune file photo
