A woman's burning body was found in a garage in the Uptown neighborhood this morning, and police were considering the case a homicide, authorities said.
The woman’s body was found on fire in a garage in the 5000 block of North Clark Street about 9:53 a.m., said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala. The woman appeared to have been slain, and police were considering the case a homicide, a police source said.
She was identified this evening as Maria Santiago, 54, of the same address where she was found, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Firefighters were called to a fire in a garage in an alley east of Clark Street at that time, and found the body, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Richard Rosado. The fire was put out, and the investigation turned over to police, he said.
Belmont Area detectives were conducting a death investigation.Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
