Listen up: The Cubs never should have allowed pitcher Ryan Dempster to hang around team offices while Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer were trying to trade him at the July 31 deadline. Epstein implied Dempster was allowed to listen in on phone talks with the Dodgers, though the Cubs later insisted they only let Dempster call Dodgers GM Ned Colletti from their office to convince him the Dodgers weren't interested in a deal. Dempster wound up going to the Rangers. No matter how it played out, a player being traded does not belong in the Cubs offices to begin with, even if he was there to play Golden Tee, as he joked to the media.
