Man dies after being shot in face on West Side

Chicago police have launched a homicide investigation into the shooting death of a 30-year-old man who was shot in the face this morning in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood, officials said.

Jonathan Jackson whose address was not known was pronounced dead at 5:29 a.m. at Stroger Hospital, according to a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Police said that about 1:56 a.m. Jackson and a 31-year-old woman were standing on the sidewalk outside of a home on the 4800 block of West Cortez Street.

Shots were fired that fatally struck Jackson and hit the woman in the hand, officials said.

The man was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he later died. The woman was taken in good condition to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center.

No one was in custody and Grand Central Area detectives are investigating.
