Fire doused in North Side elevator shaft

Chicago firefighters were dispatched to an Uptown neighborhood high-rise this morning after a small fire broke out in an elevator shaft.

An elevator motor apparently overheated at about 10:20 a.m. in the 700 block of West Bittersweet Place, according to Fire Department spokesman Richard Rosado. Five ambulances were sent to the scene as a precaution.

The fire was declared under control and the emergency medical services Plan 1 that sent the ambulances to the scene declared secured at 11:09 a.m., Rosado said.

There were no reports of injuries as of about 11:15 a.m., Rosado said.
