Top 10 reported stolen cars in California in 2007
--By Whitney Friedlander, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
The
National Insurance Crime Bureau's (NICB) annual report of the top 10 reported stolen cars in the country and the state was just released. While keeping that old Honda around might be great for the pocketbook, it might not stick around as long as you thought. Mostly older models from predominantly foreign manufacturers are going missing. Here's a look at the top 10 vehicles reported stolen from California neighborhoods in 2007.
#1 -- 1991 Honda Accord
Not just the most stolen car in the state, the 1991 Accord has made the NICB's Hot Wheels report of the top 10 stolen cars in the country since 2004 and was the second-most reported stolen vehicle in the U.S. in 2007.
This is not uncommon. Not only the same manufacturer, but the same year and model vehicle often show up in the report each year. Frank Scafidi, director of public affairs for the NICB, attributes this to parts availability. "The parts on these models are identical and they are the source of most of the illicit supply for the repair shops."
