Brentwood home of late ‘Golden Girl’ Bea Arthur for sale at $15.995 million

The longtime home of the late actress Bea Arthur of “Golden Girls” fame has come on the market in Brentwood at $15.995 million.

Set on four acres dotted with mature oaks and sycamore trees, the original Spanish-style house was built in 1924 and designed by architect Cliff May. The home later was expanded and updated to 6,000 square feet and includes a large living room with a vaulted beamed ceiling, a formal dining room and a media room.

A kitchen/great room combination, a bar, an art studio, a den, a gym, a library/study, two offices, five bedrooms and six bathrooms are among the other living spaces.

The sprawling grounds contain hiking trails, a tennis court, a swimming pool with a spa and waterfalls.

Arthur, who died in 2009 at 86, won Emmys for her work on “The Golden Girls” (1985-92) and “Maude” (1972-78). The actress also won a Tony for her role in the original cast of “Mame” (1966). The tall, deep-voiced Arthur was in the United States Marine Corps in World War II.

In the years following her death, the house has been offered for lease. The property last changed hands in 1980 for $551,500, public records show. She bought the place following her 1978 divorce from Broadway director Gene Saks.
