Mann, who died in 1955 at 80 in Zurich, wrote novels, short stories and essays. He won the Nobel Prize in literature in 1929. The anti-Nazi writer fled Germany in the early ‘30s for Switzerland before moving to the U.S. His short story “Disillusionment” is the basis for the Peggy Lee-recorded song “Is That All There Is?”
Although the house has a Pacific Palisades address in the Multiple Listing Service, The Times’ Mapping L.A. database shows it sits within the Brentwood neighborhood.
