Hot Property: Angela Bassett sells Hancock Park house for $3.8 million
Hot Property
I love when people take care of their parents. And I suspect that actress Angela Bassett is joining me in high-fiving George and Laura Carroll, neighbors who bought her Hancock Park house – finally – with the intention of moving George’s parents up from San Diego to live in it. The Carrolls’ house backs up to this property, and they plan to install a gate so no one needs to walk around the block. The story gets even nicer: The Carrolls had already bought the house next to them for Laura’s mom and dad, Joe and Alice Petrucci. (Heck, I’m loving these folks so much, I want them to come to dinner. George? Laura? How’s next week look? Bring the whole mishpooka, and we’ll send the tab to Angela.)
The former Bassett house has five bedrooms and 7 1/2 bathrooms in 4,828 square feet. It is a French Colonial, built in 1940, and has a new 1,384-square-foot, two-story guesthouse with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The property includes a full gym and a hair salon. There is crown molding throughout the house.
The house sold for $3.8 million, according to the MLS. It was listed in March at $4,999,000, then dropped to $3.9 million.
Bassett, 49, mom to twins, was nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal of Tina Turner in the 1993 film “What’s Love Got to Do With It.” She also starred in “Akeelah and the Bee” (2006) and “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” (1998). Her husband, Courtney B. Vance, is best known for his five-year run on the NBC series “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” (2001-06).
Shar Penfold of Coldwell Banker Hancock Park South represented the Carrolls in the purchase. June Ahn of the same office had the listing.
