Mudd homestead wears its Old World style well
Harvey Mudd slept here. And so did the family of the mining engineer whose name graces one of the Claremont Colleges.
Mudd died in 1955, but his family, which traces its roots back 300 years in the United States, owned this stately Beverly Hills home for about 40 years, from the time it was built in 1922.
About this house: Film producer Jack Rapke, former co-chairman of Creative Artists Agency, and his wife, Sandi, are the owners now and are selling because they plan to move to smaller quarters. They also have a home in Florida.
Asking price: $5.95 million
Size: The home has seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms in 7,256 square feet. The house sits on about an acre with a long, private drive.
Features: The Country English-style home has a dramatic two-story, carved wood and stone entry.
It also has Old World paneling and woodwork, pastoral views and a pool. Among its many rooms are a library-study, office and basement.
Where: Beverly Hills
Listing agent: Stephen Shapiro, Westside Estate Agency, (310) 860-8888.
To submit a candidate for Home of the Week, please send color interior and exterior photos (copies only; we cannot return the pictures) and a brief description of the house, including what makes the property unusual, to Ruth Ryon, Real Estate Section, Los Angeles Times, 202 W. 1st St., Los Angeles, CA 90012; or e-mail homeoftheweek@latimes.com.
