Hot Property: Cher’s former Miami Beach mansion is on the market for $14.9 million
Hot Property
Before Cher had her palm-treed Mediterranean waterfront mansion in Malibu, she had a palm-treed Mediterranean waterfront mansion in Miami Beach. And now that’s listed for sale for $14.9 million.
Located on exclusive La Gorce Island, the 11,500-square-foot mansion has six bedrooms, seven bathrooms and 150 feet of dockage.
It bears some resemblance to what Cher built in Malibu, with its Italian archways and pillars. Although the Malibu house is barely visible from the road and protected by a fortress-like guarded gate, the Miami Beach property has just a long private driveway for seclusion and skips the pseudo-protections.
Miami Beach listing agent Nelson Gonzalez of EWM Realtors said the house’s living room is on the third floor: All the better to see the ocean from the covered terrace. The master suite has a larger-than-life bathroom, fireplace and walk-in closet. Loggias abound.
Cher owned the property from 1993 to 1996, redoing it several times. She eventually sold it to Barry Schwartz, co-founder of Calvin Klein, who sold it to its current owner, a developer. At several points, it has been rented out to celebrities, including Janet Jackson and Julio Iglesias, Gonzalez said. More photos of the property are at www.nelsongonzalez.com/64LaGorceCircle.htm.
Mega-star Cher, soon to be 62, won an Oscar for her role in the 1987 movie “Moonstruck,” sharing the distinctive honor with her Malibu neighbor Barbra Streisand of both winning an Academy Award and having a No. 1 hit record.
