WARD Gallery in Petoskey will host a Festival of Art and Eats every Friday during the summer months.
The exhibition season at the gallery kicks off this week, coinciding with the Petoskey Gallery Walk on Thursday, June 21, and the first Petoskey Rocks! downtown event on Friday, June 22. Guest artist at WARD Gallery this week is Sally Bright of Fenton, a maker of free-form painted sculptured baskets. Bright was a selectee at the 2011 Art Prize competition in Grand Rapids.
The "eats" portion of Friday's Festival of Art and Eats will be barbecue pork shoulder and special hors d'oeuvres, provided by the gallery owners' son, Craig Bell, executive chef for Wolf Sub Zero and master barbecue chef in Chicago.
The second exhibition of the season at WARD Gallery on Friday, June 29, will feature Petoskey artists, Hennie Reimer and Sandra Selden, both of whom work in the abstract style. The gallery and artists will donate 10 percent of all sales on June 29 to McLaren Northern Michigan Community Free Clinic. Members of McLaren will be on hand to answer questions about the clinic.
The June 29 "eats" will be roasted pepper and Italian sausage pasta and bleu cheese steak bites.
Reimer, international artist and author, will be available to talk about her artwork and newly published book, "Abstract Painting, A Practical Approach." She won two awards for her book, based on its effectiveness as a teaching document. Selden is a Cranbrook graduate and has recently found the abstract style, perhaps encouraged by her daughter, now a New York artist and gallery staffer.
WARD Gallery is located at 409 Lake St., in Petoskey, above Ciao Bella Garden and Home. between American Spoon Foods and Dave's Boot Shop. For more information, call (231) 622-4185.
