Community: Burbank Council PTA honors volunteers

Burbank Council PTA celebrated the 65th annual Honorary Service Awards in mid-April at the Castaway restaurant.

Awards were presented to volunteers at the 16 schools in Burbank, who were honored for outstanding service to children. In addition, the council presented an Honorary Service Award to the Burbank Arts for All Foundation and a Continuing Service Award to Steve Frintner, president of the PTA Council.

Frintner was the council’s first male president. He has been a PTA member for 15 years and has been an active member for 11. He started as PTA unit president and then treasurer while his children attended Edison Elementary School and then became PTA president at Luther Middle School. He then moved to the Council PTA level, serving as financial secretary and is finishing his second year as president.

Volunteers receiving awards were Amanda Ybarra and Christopher Luckenbach from Walt Disney Elementary; Sindee DeJesus, Frank DeJesus, Deanna Holloway and Joanna Peresie, all from Thomas Edison Elementary; Ginger Hartman, Maryanne O’Brien, Christine Molaro, Pam Paterra and Arne Pearson from Emerson Elementary; Elisa Hemingway, Julie Davis, Lesli Bjork, Lucila O’Neil and Shannon Marando, all from Bret Harte Elementary; Gisela Grigorian, Erica Bootchk and Sandra DeBarros from Jefferson Elementary; Sandra Johnson, Elizabeth Roth and John Bresee, all from McKinley Elementary; Zara Gomez, Miller Elementary; Jennifer Casper, Suzanne Dixon and Jerry Earwood from Providencia Elementary; Mina Ferrante, Jen Lurie, Chris Hobson and Jennifer Meglemre from Roosevelt; Lana Wilson, Linda Strong and Celia Chapman, all from Stevenson Elementary; and Adriana Chavez, Eric Ray, Moises Marroquin, Joidie Coquia and Judy Crivelli from Washington Elementary.

A Very Special Person Award was presented to the family of Paul Thiemann, who passed away recently.

Also receiving awards were Brandon Mullins, Jenifer Coderko from Luther Middle School; Crystal Smiecinski, Doreen Wydra and Suzanne Weerts from Jordan Middle School; Kelly Duenckel, Leslie Hawa and Ted DeVirgilis from Muir Middle School; Michele Betton, Brooks Gardner, Ann Gardner, Lori Roth and Jose Vasquez, all from Burbank High School; and Winnie Cascolan and Tina McDermott from Burroughs.

The John Burroughs Jazz Band entertained, and Council Chair Brenda Burroughs organized the event.
