The Bears waived tight end Bryan Fletcher, linebacker Kiah Johnson, fullbacks Gregg Kellett and Mike Leach and linebacker Devin Lemons on Monday, trimming their roster to 76.
Fletcher was the only draft pick in that group. He was a sixth-round choice out of UCLA.
Teams must get down to 65 by Tuesday, but eight Bears players are exempt from that deadline because they spent time in NFL Europe. The exempt group includes wide receiver Kenny Christian, tackle Damion Cook, linebacker Tim Johnson, quarterback Ken Mastrole, safety Than Merrill, wide receiver Ramondo North, linebacker Mawuko Tugbenyoh, and tackle Josh Warner.
The Bears made their first cuts Sunday, waiving tackles Chris Brown and Jeff Grzeskowiak, kicker John Hilbert, cornerback Tony Lukins, punter Dan Pope and safety Adrian Singleton.
The final roster reduction to 53 must be made by Sept. 1.
The Bears play their final exhibition game Thursday at Miami and open the season Sept. 8 against Minnesota in Champaign.Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
