Jake Trader's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh brought in Tom Gruben with the winning run as No. 9 Joliet Catholic edged Richards 3-2 in non-conference baseball Monday.
Dan Wells (7-2) earned the win in relief for the Hilltoppers (23-7), throwing two hitless innings and striking out three. Jim Kulovipz went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for the winners.
No. 1 New Trier 6, Mather 2: Dusty Napoleon's three-run double sparked the Trevians (31-2). Miles Klauss drove in a two runs for New Trier, and Kevin Slattery struck out five in four innings to earn the win.
No. 3 Lockport 6, Hinsdale South 2: Matt Ottemann drove in a pair of runs and Bryan Blaskovitz earned the win in relief for the Porters (25-7).
Buffalo Grove 8, Vernon Hills 3: Tom Terzic hit a two-run home run and earned the win in relief and Chris Salzman drove in three runs as the Bison (17-17) won their fifth straight.
Grayslake 5, Crystal Lake Central 4: Matt Mulvaney's two-run single higlighted a five-run fourth-inning rally as the Rams (15-17, 9-11) came back from a 4-0 deficit in the Fox Valley.
Hillcrest 4, Curie 2: Antoine Anderson threw a four-hitter and Stavone Martin and Sharod Simpson each went 2-for-3 for the Hawks (16-17-1).
Lake View 11, Simeon 8: Bennie Alvarez went 5-for-5 with two RBIs, Steve Izquierdo went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and winning pitcher Gerald Ross went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Wildcats (19-10).
Lane Tech 2, St. Ignatius 1: Enes Bektasevic's RBI single in the bottom of the sixth lifted Lane (20-11). Couri Benz threw a five-hitter and struck out five to earn the win.
Lemont 1, Argo 0: Erik Panec tossed a three-hit shutout and fanned 11 for Lemont (13-19). Ryan Sidler went 2-for-3 and scored the game's only run on Kevin Sullivan's two-out single in the fourth.
Libertyville 7, Nazareth 3: Joe Harrington struck out 10 in a complete-game effort and helped his own cause with a pair of RBIs for the Wildcats (23-7).
Lyons 2, Palatine 0: Jordan Baughman and Dan Weston combined on a one-hit shutout, and Weston hit a solo home run for the Lions.
Oswego 2, Ottawa 1: Matt Jernstad, who threw a no-hitter last Thursday, fired a one-hitter and struck out 13 Monday for the Panthers (18-15). Ryan Keaton's two-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth scored Sean Noggle to break a 1-1 tie.
Plainfield Central 6, DeKalb 2: Joe Berrones went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Kyle Williams went 3-for-5 with a pair of stolen bases and two runs scored for the Wildcats (14-20-1).
Rolling Meadows 2, Evanston 1: Bryan Porter threw a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts and had a hand in both runs for the Mustangs (24-10-1). In the first inning, Porter drove in one run with a single and came around to score the second on Mark Lemke's double.
St. Patrick 8, Elmwood Park 1: George Hickey tossed a no-hitter and struck out six for the Shamrocks (11-22). Keith Yopchick went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the winners.
Sandburg 5, Thornwood 4 (8 inn.): Steve Strutz led off the top of the eighth with a double and scored one out later on John Kowalski's single through a drawn-in infield to lift the Eagles (21-11). Pinch hitter Kyle Hallett had tied the score 4-4 with an RBI single in the top of the sixth. Strutz threw five innings of one-hit relief to earn the win.
Schaumburg 4, Lake Park 3 (9 inn.): Ray Kosmicki's two-out single in the bottom of the ninth brought in Rob Ida with the winning run for the Saxons (16-11). Anthony Serio went 2-for-5 with an RBI and earned the win in relief.
Shepard 12, Thornton Fractional North 6: Brian Paliga went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs for the Astros (18-11).
Stagg 5, Reavis 2: Andy Leonard went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Chargers (21-12).
Stevenson 3, Barrington 2: James Bose allowed two runs on five hits over 5¦2/3 innings to earn the win for the Patriots (21-11) and improve to 7-1.
Class A regionals
At Montini: Pete Capetta's two-run home run in the fourth put Montini (21-11) up 3-0, and the Broncos went on to win 4-2 in the title game. Greg Bava allowed three hits over six innings and struck out 10 for the win.
At Reed-Custer: Michael Cuddy struck out 13 and didn't allow a hit over the final six innings as Reed-Custer rallied from a 2-0 deficit in a suspended game to defeat Bishop McNamara 7-2 in a semifinal game. Josh Meent doubled, homered and drove in three runs.
At Seneca: Matt Cade threw a five-inning no-hitter and struck out five as Seneca rolled past Gardner-South Wilmington 11-1 in a semifinal game.
At Walther Lutheran: Dan Vincenti homered twice and drove in three runs and Brett Maloney and James Schwark added solo home runs as St. Francis defeated Timothy Christian 7-5 in the title game. Steve Driscoll earned the win in relief for the Spartans (18-15). Zack Van Dyke homered for Timothy Christian.
No. 1 Lake Park 26, East Aurora 0: Dana Dimiceli went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and six RBIs as the Lancers (30-2, 18-0) clinched the Upstate Eight championship.
Queen of Peace 5, No. 3 Lockport 1: Theresa Boruta threw a two-hitter and doubled and scored a run for the Pride (24-6). Erin Fionda, Kelly Shinnick and Molly Stewart all contributed RBI singles for the winners.
No. 7 Oak Park 7, Trinity 1: Kealan Waldron's three-run home run ignited the Huskies (26-6). Jane Nightengale earned the win, allowing no earned runs on five hits over six innings and striking out six.
No. 10 Lincoln-Way Central 2, No. 5 Sandburg 1: Cait Paus hit a two-run home run in the first inning to lift the Knights (23-6, 7-4-1). Amy Solava threw a four-hitter and struck out five to earn the win.
Addison Trail 5, Crystal Lake South 1: Danielle Zdrahel went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs and Steffanie Gardocki went 2-for-4 and scored twice as the Trailblazers (20-11) notched their seventh straight 20-win season. Briana Cantanese went the distance and fanned 13 to pick up the win.
Bremen 3, Evergreen Park 1: Courtney Thompson hit a solo home run and Val Lasky and Brittany Wayne each drove in a run for the Braves (19-15).
Crystal Lake Central 1, Grayslake 0: Katie McNamara threw a two-hit shutout with five strikeouts and also went 2-foe-3 with a triple for the Tigers (22-9, 12-7) in the Fox Valley.
Glenbard East 6, Joliet 4: Katie Mielke went 4-for-4 with a double, a home runs, three runs scored and four RBIs for the Rams (18-12).
Hinsdale South 3, Nazareth 2 (8 inn.): Katie Buell's squeeze bunt in the bottom of the eighth plated Christine Auclair with the winner for the Hornets (23-10). Sara Narotsky went the distance for Hinsdale South, allowing no earned runs on five hits while striking out seven. Lindsay Schaffer went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the winners.
Neuqua Valley 8, Waubonsie Valley 0: Stephanie Kelly threw a three-hit shutout and struck out eight for the Wildcats (22-9-1, 15-3) in the Upstate Eight. Val Farrasso and Mariel Hamer both went 2-for-3 and drove in three and two runs, respectively, and Angela Danca added a two-run double.
Niles North 2, Maine East 1: Kate Seebacher went 2-for-3 and scored the winning run on a wild pitch for the Vikings (10-23). Christine Christopoulos went the distance on a three-hitter and struck out 10 to earn the win.
Plainfield Central 1, Geneva 0 (10 inn.): Kathleen Thanas led off the bottom of the 10th with a single, moved to second on a bunt, stole third and came home on a throwing error to win it for the Wildcats. Jillian Kachel allowed three hits over 10 shutout innings and struck out eight.
Richards 3, Crete-Monee 2: Cori Omiecinski scored the winning run on a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth to lift the Bulldogs (20-12).
Class A Regionals
At Aurora Central: Beth Florina led off the game with a single - Driscoll's only hit of the game - and eventually scored on Lindsay McCuiston's groundout as the Highlanders edged Plano 1-0 for the title. Megan Mazur threw a six-hit shutout for Driscoll (25-12) and struck out eight. Calli Klatt went the distance and allowed only the leadoff single for Plano.
At Ottawa Marquette: Robyn Hutton threw a one-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts and also went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and scored a run as Illiana Christian defeated Ottawa Marquette 2-0 in the title game.
At Walther Lutheran: Erin Stanley threw a three-hit shutout and she and Suzy Bjornson each had a pair of hits as Walther Lutheran defeated Luther North 6-0 to win its first regional title.
At Wilmington: Danielle McNamara went 3-for-6 and scored the winning run in the top of the 12th as the host Ladycats (19-6) edged Gardner-South Wilmington 4-3.
Class AA regionals
Libertyville regional: Jessica O'Donnell scored a pair of goals and Molly Uyenishi tallied a goal and an assist as No. 3 Lake Zurich (18-4-2) defeated Grayslake 5-0.
St. Charles East: Freshman Hannah Price scored in the 76th minute to lift Bartlett to a 1-0 win over Glenbard West.
At Downers Grove South: Doug Boyd ripped 11 kills and Derek Jensen added four blocks, four aces, 10 digs and 14 assists as West Chicago (17-19) defeated Wheaton Academy 25-11, 25-11.
At Elgin: Drew Rasmussen posted eight kills and three blocks and Shaun McGovern added seven kills and five blocks as St. Charles East beat Elgin 25-22, 25-18.
At Hoffman Estates: Larkin defeated St. Edward 25-14, 25-11 as Kevin Allison collected 10 kills, 10 digs and 25 assists, Jensen Schambach contributed seven kills and seven digs and Ben Rouse posted five kills and five blocks.
At Niles West: Michael Keenan tallied eight kills in the second game as Northside Prep beat Von Steuben 25-18, 25-20.
