Thresa A. Nelson has joined the Chicago Urban League as chief financial officer. She will direct the Urban League's financial planning and accounting practices, as well as its relationship with lending institutions and the financial community. Before joining the Urban League staff, Nelson was chief executive of Civitas Schools and chief operating officer of its parent Chicago International Charter School. She also held financial posts with GCI Group Inc.-Chicago, a subsidiary of Grey Advertising. Nelson, a CPA, has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Loyola University Chicago and a masters in administration and a Ph.D. in educational leadership and research from Louisiana State University.
