Sharon O'Keefe, president, University of Chicago Medical Center

Sharon O'Keefe, has been named president of the <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="OREDU0000151" title="University of Chicago" href="/topic/education/colleges-universities/university-of-chicago-OREDU0000151.topic">University of Chicago</a> Medical Center, effective Feb. 23.<br>

O'Keefe comes to the medical center from Loyola University Medical Center, in Maywood, where she has been  president since April 2009. Before that she was chief operating officer at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.<br>

O'Keefe began her health care career as a critical-care nurse. She advanced into administration with a focus on hospital operations and performance, health care quality and safety and patient and employee satisfaction.  She is on the <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="ORGOV0000101" title="National Institutes of Health" href="/topic/health/health-organizations/national-institutes-of-health-ORGOV0000101.topic">National Institutes of Health</a> Advisory Board for Clinical Research.<br>

O'Keefe, 58, received her B.S. in <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="HEMSP000015" title="Nursing (INACTIVE)" href="/topic/health/nursing-%28inactive%29-HEMSP000015.topic">nursing</a> from <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="OREDU000003" title="Northern Illinois University" href="/topic/education/colleges-universities/northern-illinois-university-OREDU000003.topic">Northern Illinois University</a>  and an M.S. in nursing from Loyola's  nursing school.
