Gregory Ursino has been named medical director of UnitedHealthcare of Illinois and Northwest Indiana. Ursino, 46, focus on access to appropriate medical services for UnitedHealthcare plan participants, promote quality clinical care and effectively managing health care costs. He will also work with contracted physicians and physician organizations throughout the region. Ursino most recently was oncology scientific director for the Novartis Oncology Division in Illinois. He previously was medical director at GlaxoSmithKline and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois and has spent the majority of his clinical practice at the University of Pittsburgh and West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park. A native of the Pittsburgh area, Ursino received his bachelors degree at the University of Pittsburgh and his medical doctorate from Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey, Pa. He completed his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Rochester in Rochester, N.Y.
