Bruce Berlin has been appointed executive director of Lake Forest Place, a Presbyterian Homes continuing care retirement community. Berlin has a background in hotel management and more than 15 years experience in leading retirement communities in Chicago's north and northwest suburbs. He has particular expertise in employee relations and operations management Prior to joining Presbyterian Homes, Berlin was the executive director at The Garlands of Barrington. He joined The Garlands organization in 2001 and managed the opening of the new resort-style continuing care retirement community (CCRC). He directed its operations, budgets, vision, services and amenities. He established a relationship-based employee culture that delivered exceptional levels of resident satisfaction while maintaining very low employee turnover and high employee satisfaction. Berlin began his career in hotel management with Embassy Suites Hotels in 1985 where he held management positions in multiple U.S. locations until 1992. He was appointed general manager at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in Indianapolis in 1993. His experience in hotel management led to his becoming executive director at Hawthorn Lakes, an independent and assisted living community in Vernon Hills from 1994 through 1999. He then became executive director at Lincolnwood Place and remained there until joining The Garlands in 2001. Berlin has Bachelor's degrees from the University of Santa Clara and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
